When you finish the quiz, turn it in, then you have two tasks to finish today:

TASK 1: Click below to watch the "You Can Learn Anything" video. Be sure to put on your headphones if others are still working on the quiz!! If you don't have headphones, start with the 2nd task.

On page 12 of your science notebook, write the heading "You Can Learn Anything Video Response", then follow the directions and answer the questions below:
  • Write a short paragraph about something that you struggled to learn but eventually were able to do well.  This could be from when you were a young child, like learning to ride a bike or swim, to learning something at school.
  • What is something you would like to learn this year? ( this could be related to school, sports, music, cooking, or another skill)
  • I would like to learn how to _______________
  • What things can you do to help you continue to stick to something even when the learning is challenging and you want to give up?
TASK 2: Choose on of the following words/phrases and create an illustrated (with pictures!) acrostic poem. Use at least four different colored pencils or markers.

Unit 1 Section 1 Asking About Life


1. Turn to page 6 and 7 of the textbook.  Look at the picture of frogs. What do you notice? What questions do you have about the picture?




2. Compare a chicken, a turkey, and an eagle. Find three similarities and three differences.



How do the bodies of these animals relate to how they live?



3. Read Unit 1 Section 1 Asking About Life pp.  8-11

4. After reading, go to the link below and (with your table partner) choose an animal from the green box on the right. Write the name of the animal you choose in the middle of page 8 of your science notebook and circle it. Write at least four questions about your animal around the name of the animal.

  2. Word of the day:   Perseverance videos
  3. Cup Stack Lab
  • The goal is to work together with your table group to make a pyramid of 10 cups without touching them.
  • Tie a string for each member of the group to the rubber band
  • Use this tool to pick up and place each cup to make the pyramid
  • Each member of the team must be holding a string at all times
  • You must hold the string near the end (do not get within 18" of the rubber band!)

Learning Goals: Get to know each other and learn what the class will be like

Today's Agenda
  • Make a table tent and write your name on it on both sides with a Sharpie. You can decorate it with colored pencils or pens when you have time.
  • Introduction Game:  "I Can Relate"
  • Classroom Rules and Procedures
  • Homework: "Me in a Bag"
    • Choose three things that have some meaning to you to put in your bag. Bring it back to school tomorrow or any day this week. We'll spend some time each day guessing who's bag is who's. Be ready to share your bag and explain why you chose the objects you did.
  • Name Game (if we have time!)
